The Boys Are Back In Town!

Bell_WS.jpg

He's been around for a long time. He loves the city despite their raining sadness over the years, and yet here we are once more.

Congratulations to the New York Mets and their Manager Bell, winning once more - as we say a brief goodbye to Manager Bruce for steering the D'Rays into the arms of Manager McLean, now talking the helm for the Cincinnati Reds.

The Mets rolled into "LACALIANA" fresh off their semi-final sweep of the Detroit Tigers to face the well rested Angels.

GAME 1 - DEGROM vs BURNES

A true pitchers duel as both teams strand the bases loaded in their halves of the 9th and this one remains scoreless heading into the 11th.  The Mets manage to get a base runner and Tatis cranks a long ball for a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom half of the 11th, the Angels also manage a base runner but with 2 out and Dejong coming to the plate after spending the entire year in the minors, the in-game betting was favouring the Mets.  A ground out roll appears to end the game but a balk call keeps the Angels alive.  A subsequent missed balk roll extends the Angels life line once again and then on the next pitch Dejong clocks a no doubter to tie the game and send this one to the 12th. The Mets can't get anything going and they have used their projected game 2 starter as the Angels string together a few base knocks and prevail 3-2 in the 13th.

GAME 2 - OHTANI vs RODON

Showtime is now forced to start game 2 in a dangerous matchup in Angels Stadium.  The Angels get on the board in the 2nd with a 2 spot but the Mets pick up singles in the 5th and 6th to square the match.  This one heads to extra innings once again and the bullpens are pretty well used up by the 11th.  The Angels are on the last man standing and the Mets manage to plate a run but face a big problem as they are out of pitchers so position players will have to take the mound from here on out.  A couple of Met's outfielders manage to hold the Angels to 1 run and we head to the 12th.  The Angels are also down to position players only able to pitch but both teams are not able to score in the 12th.  The Mets score one in the 13th and an infielder shuts down the Angels bats for an insane game two win that neither of us will forget.

GAME 3 - SCHERZER vs WHEELER

The Teams head to NY still reeling from the events of the 1st two games of the series and a pitchers duel takes centre stage once again.  The single run the Mets scored in the 2nd (Gallo HR?) holds up for a 1-0 shutout.

GAME 4 - GIO vs URIAS

The Angels go to work early in the 1st inning and the Met's consider themselves lucky to only give up 2 runs.  NY responds with 1 run the next inning and 2 in the 4th thanks to an Ohtani homer and the Mets hang on for a 3-2 win in a 4th consecutive 1 run game.

GAME 5 - BURNES vs DEGROM

A rematch of game 1 starters and the Angels must win this one to send the series back to Anaheim for a 6th game.  The Angels come out firing on all cylinders and the Mets are once again happy to only give up 2 runs in the 1st.  The NY bats start to click and they pick up 4 runs over the next 4 innings including an Ohtani rocket to deep CF.  The Angels will not go down without a fight as they tie it up in the 6th and then put on a lumber show with 11 more from the 7th to 9th and send this series home with a convincing 15-4 victory

GAME 6 - WHEELER (On short rest) vs RODON

It is the Mets' turn to jump out to a quick start with 3 HR's in the 1st (Arozarena, Buxton & Olson) and come within 1 run of getting Rodon tired in the first inning and lead it 4-0 heading to the bottom of the 1st.  Not to be outdone, the Angels load the bases and JRAM wipes the smiles off of the Mets' faces with one mighty swing.  Tie game.

With both starters both barely escaping getting tired in the 1st, who would have thought they would both bear down and put up goose eggs from there on in?  But they did.  Along with the rested bullpens this one headed to the 9th still tied at 4.  Buxton & Lindor both hit solo shots in the top of the nine but Jansen could not shut the door as Altuve hits a two run shot to tie it and fittingly, send the game to extra innings for a 3rd consecutive time in Anaheim.  In the top of the 10th, trade deadline acquisition Ryan McMahon, hits a solo shot and this time Suarez is tasked with the job of closing the door and he comes through as the Mets win this one 7-6 and claim their 10th World series title by capturing the PB Cup.

Within minutes the facility was being changed to get ready for the upcoming draft.  Scott brought out the Black version of Bryce Harper's 2022 card and set what was left of his Jake cookie on the card and then proceeded to let Bryce assist with the draft.  The rest is history, and Scott can tell that story ...
